This is John Chapman with Patty Wussow and Georg Apfelbaum. Patty is the USAs equivalent of Cheryl. Always working... She has a 2IC in Sheri Thomas-OBrien and many volunteers that have put in a huge effort. I introduced George to you in a previous post. The volunteers here have been extremely busy. They have a canteen for the spectators and a club house for the coaches to enjoy food and drinks before and after the games. The players are issued meal tickets each day, so they can eat at the ball park for free. The umpires are from the senior grades and their strike zone is regulation - which means a little bigger strike zone than the interpretation taught to umpires in NSW. Ultimately, games end up with less walks, more aggressive hitting, and less pitches thrown. The boys have noticed the slightly bigger zone, but Im not sure they have an appreciation for the advantages as yet - especially after they look at a called third strike.
