This is Lee Kuan Yew, the first prime minister of Singapore and one of the most powerful and influential statesmen of modern world. He took up broom during the first year of his PMship (in 1959) to clean up the then dusty and dirty roads of Singapore. He led his party to eight consecutive victories, ended communism in Singapore and went on to transform Singapore from an underdeveloped colonial outpost to a first world Asian tiger. It is no secret that Modi is a big admirer of Kuan and Modi has some distinct advantages like youth, demand and social media with him. I see no reason to be cynical. One more term and Nehruvian socialism will be history. Better days ahead.
