This is Shinji Kagawa of Japan. A creative midfielder who plays for Manchester United in England, he was a controversial figure this year as he was left on the bench again and again by now-fired manager David Moyes despite the squad struggling to their worst finish in decades. The internet was abuzz with fans urging Moyes to play Kagawa, including the viral use of the hashtag #FreeShinji on Twitter. Prior to joining Manchester United, Kagawa was the creative force behind Borussia Dortmund’s two successive Bundesliga titles. Dortmund bought Kagawa from the Japanese Second Division in 2010 for €350,000 and sold him to Manchester United 2 years later for €22 million. Kagawa is a popular figure in Japan. He is featured in many advertisements, including one in the mobile carrier Softbank’s popular campaign that involves a dog who is the patriarch of a human family. In the following commercial, the dog plays Kagawa’s uncle, and the beluga plays his father: https://youtube/watch?v=56xeL5jModQ Earlier this year, Kagawa went on television with his national teammate Hiroshi Kiyotake to play against 55 children. They were able to defeat the children despite the use of 5 goalkeepers. Video can be found at https://youtube/watch?v=xVX1ulqvZUg - Kohei Yamamoto
