This is Thomas Brooke of Newport, Ky. As I was walking about the city, I spotted him working on something intensely and asked him what he was doing. In an unassuming tone, he said he was making a walking stick. He makes them for people who need them, friends, family, even strangers. He attends church regularly and was inspired by his craft when a lone branch fell from a tree in his yard after praying to God asking what he should do with his life. Baffled and confused, Thomas wondered aloud So God thinks I should work with sticks?! But what he initially saw as mediocre and benign quickly turned into a useful and practical design. Immediately he set to work shaping canes and walking sticks for those who could not afford them. Whatever your personal beliefs, its an inspiring instance of selflessness and personal growth.
