This is a bit long, but for those who are interested in the Roselands update. This is from them: Dear Friends and Family, I just got back from the police station this morning and there is no news on the car. The chance of finding it after 72 hours is very slim, as stolen cars are usually taken to Colombia and sold or they are taken to a chop shop and sold for parts. At this point, there is a very slim chance that we will get the car back. Currently, our family is doing well. It has been a difficult few days, but we are doing much better. Our minds have fully connected with the fact that it is just a material possession that can be replaced, but at the same time our hearts still feel heavy, sad, and overwhelmed. We are completely confident that God will provide for our every need, because He always has throughout every trial…but at the same time, it has been difficult to believe that all of our savings were gone in an instant. It just further has made us look at where we are spending our time, making sure that we are constantly putting our family and the lives we are affecting around us first before anything else. At this point, we have been blessed by the ability to borrow a vehicle from the Coyle family (other missionaries at It’s About Kids). But at the same time, we need to purchase another vehicle to help us move on and continue to serve to the best of our abilities. We are currently looking at a 2002 Nissan Pathfinder that is priced at $15,000 . We know that seems like a lot. Cars in Ecuador are a lot more expensive than in the US! kbb/ lists the car (in the states) for about $5,000 - $6,000. So hopefully you can better understand our frustration and challenge. We know that ultimately God will provide a vehicle for us to use. We’re looking forward to how God does it, and also who He chooses to use in the process. Orphanos has opened up a special account for us whereby all gifts will go towards getting a vehicle. We know that many of you are on as tight of a budget as we are and it is difficult to give extra funds. The CEO at Orphanos told us this is a good time of year to be open for help because it’s past the Christmas season (where everyone is sending out funding appeals), past the Jan-Feb “gotta pay off the Christmas bills” crunch, and close to the “I got my tax return!” time. That may be true, but we still choose to trust the Lord for what we need; whatever time of year the need comes. If God is nudging you to help us with this need, then we rejoice with you. If not, our friendship with you remains unchanged. Jehovah Jirah is our provider. We’re God’s humble servants and we have felt like we got hit over the head with this trial, but at the same time He has given us tremendous peace and covered us with a sense of safety throughout this time. We praise Him for protecting our family and allowing us to continue to serve Him here in Ecuador. Through all of this, we know that “everything comes from Him and exists by His power and is intended for His glory. All glory to Him forever! Amen.” ~Romans 11:36 Richard, Ximena, Santi, and Lani
