This is a drawing of the Nicolette Hotel. This drawing was done by a friend of my moms. A famous artist named Bess Hubbard. The town of Lubbock was founded in 1890, when it was formed from joining the two smaller towns of Old Lubbock and Monterey. The terms of the compromise included keeping the Lubbock name, but the Monterey townsite, so the previous Old Lubbock residents relocated south to the Monterey location, including putting Old Lubbocks Nicolette Hotel on rollers and pulling it across Yellowhouse Canyon to its new home. I believe it was torn down in 1948. The first person to be buried in the Lubbock Cemetery died in this hotel. It was torn down and our Federal Building sits on that spot today. It was said to be already haunted at the time that it was moved from Old Lubbock.
