This is a genteel site and it pains when I read of harsh reactions to some contributions. For what it is worth (administrators please feel free to can this post if you disagree): The Oxford definition of Nostalgia: A sentimental longing or wistful affection for a period in the past. Something done or presented in order to evoke feelings of nostalgia. This site is dedicated to East Africas past: its shared history, all of its people from wherever and most important of all personal memories. It is the composite elements of all that is life itself that binds us together as people of Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania of a particular era: 1900 to whenever. The DNA of East African life includes all the memorabilia: photography, movies, newspapers, oral and written history: virtually everything that happened in East Africa: to everyone, to everything; by everyone, by everything. Our nostalgia is a shared experience by the people who have left East Africa to call other shores home. It is also a shared experience with the current people who live in EA. It is a sharing of experiences, our birth-right, growing up, puberty, education, sports, entertainment, everything. Through our shared experiences we are trying to bond with people who may have been familiar or even a part of our stories. We attempt to find kindred spirits from our past while sharing with the present and the future. There is a whole dominion of communication that deals exclusively with reality. That does not mean that the nostalgia tribe does not respect the present or the world that is today. Equally if this website is the go-to place, that quiet corner of the world where we can dream of what once was an unforgettable and wonderful life, the like of which we (or anyone else for that matter) will never see again, then I think the world looking in can afford to be generous and kind to a tribe that chooses only to remember the country of their birth with nothing but honour and a fondness reserved for the most beloved of this earth.
