This is a guitar I bought in the late 80s from a guy in Schenectady (I believe for $150 bucks) - a Japanese Tele. Back then we used the Want Ad Digest (for you New Yorkers its the upstate equivalent of the Buy Lines) - way before there was a Craigslist. It played like a dream with that one piece maple neck but I never cared for the sound. It became my knock around and practice guitar - you know, the one that I never minded leaving in the back of the car in zero degree weather. It later became a project guitar (and still just a backup). My former band mate James Featherstone did a setup on it a few years ago and installed copper foil shielding in the neck pickup cavity. More recently a friend Richard M Hallenbeck recommended Fender Custom Shop 51 Nocaster pickups. I bought them about a year ago but just recently got around to installing them. My band-mate Tom Holland helped me by tapping out the bridge pickup base-plate to fit the previous machine screws. Finished it up last night. Now it not only plays like a dream but screams and sings. Its a beauty. Ill play it at my Goold Orchard Apple Fest gig this Sunday. Thanks to all of you who helped me turn this ugly duckling into a thing of beauty!!
