This is a labradoodle (half lab/half poodle). Their coats can vary from a straight, scruffy coat to wavy to very curly. This girl has a very curly poodle-like coat, but the little bit of lab slightly changes the texture and characteristic of the coat. She is by no means a neglected dog. She is loved, cared for and brushed by her owner. With her owners permission, we are sharing these pictures with you to show how even a brushed dog can be unknowingly matting and pelting underneath. This is common with the labradoodle coat. To properly maintain a longer style and avoid a shave down, brushing is required at least a couple times a week, if not daily. After brushing you want to take a steel comb through the coat making sure you can get through all the way down to the skin. This fur baby was an absolute sweetie for her spa day, but it can be painful sometimes when the mats are so terribly close to the skin and the only way to remove is a tight shave down. A spa day every 4 -8 weeks is recommended for this breed and coat style.
