This is a little thank you to those that answered my (very detailed) request with the same optimism that I had when I was set out to find a new horse for a client/friend. We tried three of the nicest horses that I have seen in a while over the past two days. You would be hard pressed to find a nicer ride at any price. Unfortunately, we could only select one. We found an accommodating seller with a super nice horse...it is a GREAT fit and that is what it is all about. To those that told me that we would not find anything for that price, send your buyers to me :) Now comes the advice portion... BUYERS: (1 ) For those of you looking to purchase a new horse, dont let someone tell you that your requests are unreasonable. DO NOT GET IMPATIENT. The right horse is out there. Purchasing the wrong horse is worse than waiting for the right one to come along. (2) You need to be realistic in your expectations. Evaluate your finances, abilities and goals before begin your search. Meaning, do not try a pro rodeo caliber horse if you are a playday caliber rider. We all had to start somewhere, be patient and work your way up. Also, unless you have worked out some kind of special deal, dont waste the sellers time or even put your leg across a horse if you dont have the money in hand! SELLERS: (1) Disclose all information about the horse you have for sale. In the days of social media and the good ole fashion word of mouth, someone, somewhere will ALWAYS know the horse that you are trying to sell. Horses with some baggage still sell. Price accordingly and be upfront about any potential issues. (2) Remember, you are not the only game in town. Do not start the process if you dont intend to finish it. Its very easy to lose a sell, as there is always another owner ready to show their horse and accommodate the potential buyer. Again, thank you to those that allowed us to view and try your horses this weekend. They were all three QUALITY animals.
