This is a long post but I want to try to get more people to help persuade the Armed Services Committee to listen and keep the morale of deployed service members and their families a priority! #keeprandrforada Dear Citizen, Do you enjoy the FREEDOM of being in AMERICA? Do you ever go to bed at night and think of the service members that are putting their lives, families, and freedoms up to protect you and our allies from terror and oppression? Well, thinking about how and why you are in a FREE AMERICA is kind of like thinking about how and why the electricity comes on when you flick the switch. You do not think about it until it does not work anymore. Right now the military is working to protect America and our allies but each day our service members’ ability to perform their mission to the best of their ability is being eroded by budget cuts that not only make it harder to maintain equipment but to maintain good morale. The most recent cuts to the military Imminent Danger Zones will save the government money but it will cost hundreds of service members and their families the privilege of Rest and Recuperation (R&R) leave during a yearlong deployment. The R&R program is only allowed under the Hardship Duty locations and Imminent Danger locations which are currently being changed as of June 1st to save money in the budget since these zones also include a $225 per month extra payment to each service member deployed to those regions. Most military units no longer do one year tours but some are still on the yearlong tours because it makes the rotation cycle easier on service members and families through keeping the service members home longer between deployments than if they were doing nine month or less tours. In the interest of full discloser, my spouse is an Army SFC that is currently serving in one of the areas being reclassified and will not be able to return home on R&R leave if this change is put into place without an exception for his Battalion already half way through their deployment. However, I am fighting for all service members whose morale is being crushed each day by the heartless cuts to the military in many areas. So, if you want to join me in standing up for our military and say enough is enough please look at the list below and call them or (I am still looking for a charitable organization to help us) donate to help pay for the R&R leave of a service member that the government is no longer paying for even though they are still on a yearlong deployment. My hope is to be able to have my husband come home for R&R because I and our twin 2 ½ year old girls miss him deeply but more importantly because he deserves the time to recharge and go back and finish his deployment strong! However, I am not fighting just for my own benefit but because I think it is time to stand up to the Pentagon, Congress, and the President over the cuts being made to the very people that “keep the lights on” for our FREEDOM in AMERICA!
