This is a makeshift monarch habitat when I had them indoors after they devoured all the milkweed. Each day I moved them to another container so I could clean the one theyd been in the day before. The tube in the upper right corner of the photo is a homemade floral tube with a milkweed stem (after I got more). This is how I accidentally rooted some milkweed. The mortality rate of caterpillars and the chance of deformed butterflies is much greater when raising them indoors. If youre not there when they emerge from the chrysalis and they fall, they will injure their wings and not be able to fly. Its better to have a habitat with flowers like zinnia they can climb as they emerge. Monarchs in particular need to hang for a long time to dry their wings.
