This is a picture of the outfit Christopher wore to school today - we had a long discussion about consequences (he really cant afford to stand out in a crowd at school right now due to his grades) and civil courage. He chose to wear skinny pants despite the fact that he might be called out in front of his peers and getting in school suspension for this choice. I understand that we have to have rules on how we allow students to dress (since some parents have a different opinion on what constitutes decent) and I always assumed that I, still somewhat of a foreigner with TOO many liberal tendencies, just didnt get it; but apparently a lot of local parents to girls are not either. Yesterday our school cracked down on the dress code and embarrassed a lot of teen girls by making them change into their PE uniforms for the day rather than wearing skinny jeans which had been fine all year. (it was cold by the way). I dont have problems with rules, I actually thrive on them - but they need to be equally enforced across the board AND they need to make sense! I DO have a problem with GIRLS being objectified by schools and held responsible for what my TEENAGE BOY thinks - due to their outfit. Im equally mad that apparently people think that my son has some unbridled lust that is controlled by the tightness of a girls pants or the opportunity to see a girls shoulder. Whats next? What about that gorgeous hair some of these girls have? Were going to make them cover that up? How about those well developed arms some of these boys have in 8th Grade? Are the chicks distracted because theyre checking out them guns ? No more short sleeves for them please! Rant over. Im truly afraid for this country if THIS is what were most worried about at school.
