This is a powerful video. And I understand that not everyone will agree with my point of view. Thats totally fine. This is just my opinion, from my perspective, as a parent: Hannah came home upset (VERY upset - nearly in tears, filled with anxiety) a few weeks before the big, high stakes testing was to occur. She PLEADED with me, Mama, YOU CAN OPT OUT. We DO NOT have to take these tests. Our teacher TOLD us. Theres a website you can go to! Hannah is in 4th grade. Seth is in 3rd grade. Camryn is in 7th grade. This year, the testing occurred the same week our kids got the flu. All three DOWN with the flu for an entire week. So, they missed the writing portion and maybe another portions re-takes, too. However, they did take the math portion (re-take) and while it didnt seem to stress Camryn out, it did take a toll on Hannah. We CAN opt out, though. And maybe we will. The parents in this video are right, in my opinion. After 4th grade, there is no more art class. They do not have a music program. And organized sports are few and dont seem to be funded. I naturally took/take tests pretty well. Not superb. Not with flying colors but I always got by and tested just fine (average to above average). Camryn is the type of student who tests VERY well - even in grades above her actual level. This kind of testing does not bother her in the slightest. Our other two children are exactly the opposite. They are INTELLIGENT, CREATIVE kids - but they will be forced to go to Summer School if they dont pass all of the sections of this testing that truly doesnt tell anyone what they learned or didnt learn - or even if the teacher instructed them properly to begin with, again, in my opinion. Okay, done now. Watch the video if you are a parent, though. Who benefits from these standardized tests? It doesnt seem to be our children... https://youtube/watch?v=2ayYajsQjg8&feature=youtu.be
