This is a pretty good explanation of the recent pound scare. Since ditching manufacturing, British capitalism has spent the last few decades making its money primarily through rents, stocks and other fictitious practices which serve no real human purpose and often are often just really sophisticated ways of robbing people. North sea oil is one of the few crutches that help keep this rotten system standing. Thus, its a better together from the City of London.
