This is a public service announcement. I invite comments, and in light of, the fact that this could be a very heated topic, I ask that all comments be POSITIVE. I dont want to bash the system, but I DO encourage all of us to be proactive and to strongly advocate for ourselves when it comes to our HEALTH. My husband Mike was diagnosed with Lyme Disease today. This has been a 10 YEAR journey. When I met Mike 4 years ago I told him that we would tirelessly get to the bottom of his fibromyalgia. With the help of GOD, good research, and a very supportive community of friends & family, we FINALLY have an answer! Heres the important part. He was routinely tested for Lyme Disease and the tests came up NEGATIVE..... EVERY TIME. Thanks to my Aunt Lee Ann Allora Zoppi who recommended a specialist ~ we went and had a panel of blood tests done from a very specific lab called IGeneX, Inc. Antibiotic treatment starts today ~ and praise GOD ~ we expect my husband to be a new man in a matter of a few short weeks. I also have a dear friend who has been in close to crippling pain for 12 years! She went to the same doctor ~ had the same blood test ~ and is positive for LYME! She has been on antiobiotics for a few weeks now and said that her pain has already decreased by 50%. Mike has tried EVERY treatment imaginable. Nutritional supplements, accupuncture, chiropractic ~ you name it. 2 years ago he went to a chiropractor who told him he could prescribe a years worth of therapy to the tune of $20,000 not covered by insurance, and he couldnt guarantee results. My husband has been seeing a rheumatologist for years who has prescribed pain medicine which he has been taking around the clock just in order to function like a normal human being. Those of you who know him know that he was always in pain, always fatigued, YET he medicated himself and went to work at a physical job ANYWAY because he needed and wanted to provide for his family. He took the pain meds and got past the pain so that he could tirelessly work on our home, our childrens cars, and volunteer for many hours with our local charity of choice which requires a lot of hands-on work from volunteers. I am grateful for a very faithful and all loving God who brought us to a REAL DIAGNOSIS and a possibility for treatment. I am shouting this info out on facebook because I now have 3 people very near and dear to me who suffered serious & crippling pain who went UNDIAGNOSED for too long! Also, because standard blood tests are falsely negative for Lyme 50% of the time!! That was on the news on the Today show a few weeks ago. If you know anyone who suffers, please have them demand from their health practitioner to have the western blot test done from the lab IGeneX, or go to a specialist who deals with that lab. Im not an expert by any means ~ but if you do some research youll find the information for your loved ones. PRAISE GOD for an answer!! I love you Mike!!
