This is a reminder of why I love what I do, and WHY we hire some amazing people for judges! Hello, I wanted to take a moment to say a general thank you to the judges at the Hartford, CT competition, on 2/2/14. I just had the opportunity to listen to my daughters critiques from the judges. Aside from the dancing critiques, more importantly was the kind words from one of the female judges. My daughter has very recently begun to suffer extreme anxiety attacks. She has been dancing competitively since Kindergarten and there has never been an issue. This competition was a first. She suffered anxiety before each of her dances that day, but was able to go out there with the support of her team mates. She was clearly struggling at the beginning to middle of each dance but was able to dance to the end of each routine. She then had her duet which she again struggled with. It was then time for her solo. I had told her teacher that I didnt think she was going to be able to do it. Her teacher was great and said whatever she was able/wanted to do was fine, that she supported her. Well, she finally checked in. They announced her name and began to play her music, and no dancer, she couldnt get on stage. About 10 minutes later she gave it another try. This time she got on stage, was visibly upset, especially since it was just her on stage this time. For about the first 30 seconds it was hard to watch (for me at least) but she fought through and ended up dancing beautifully (again, in my eyes at least). Her team mates were cheering her on shouting out encouragement throughout her routine. It was an amazing moment for my daughter, one of my most proud moments for her. I ran to her and hugged and cried with her. I told her it didnt matter what the judges said, she looked perfect out there and I was so proud! Well, I was wrong, it did matter what the judges said. She scored an Elite HIgh Gold by the way. But back to the critiques ~ part way through listening the one female judge says I dont know what is going on in your life and Im not going to speculate, but just dance, you are safe here and your friends are all here to support you. Just do you. It was very kind of her to say and to acknowledge that something was going on. So from a very grateful mom, thank you to your judges for their caring!!
