This is a replica of what is happening on our campus, that the Ibikunle led administration is shying away from student that vote you in. Everyone of you that have determine to destroy unionism anywhere in the World, the it shall not be well ......... AN OPEN LETTER TO THE STUDENTS’ UNION LEADERSHIP: ODESOLA- LED EXECUTIVE MEMBERS AND EGUNJOBI LED- SRC PARLIAMENT MUST IMMEDIATELY START MOBILISATION FOR A UNION CONGRESS WITH 24HRS LECTURE BOYCOTT FOR MASSIVE PARTICIPATION OF GENERALITY OF STUDENTS Odesola Victor led- union administration and the Egunjobi Ifeoluwa led- SRC must stop running away from facing mass of students that voted them into office. It has become more imperative in the interest of over 20, 000 students of the university community who are not just ordinary members of the students’ union but importantly financial members of the union to write this open letter to the leadership of our union at both executive and parliament levels in the singular demand for a congress of the union on or before Friday 21st, November, 2014 which precede the commencement of the proposed union week on Monday 23rd, November, 2014 failure to which rank and file of studentry will begin the immediate mobilisation for the collection of 250 signatories in forcing the union congress on the leadership of the union. Ever since the assumption of the Odesola led- union administration and the SRC election that brought in Egunjobi Ifeoluwa as the speaker of our union, the question of solving enormous attacks rocking the generality of students has been left abandoned, students’ interest and welfare condition has been left into the hands of university management and hall chairpersons who instead of defending students’ interest and fight for improved student welfare conditions through their various halls rather form close allies with the Adewole led- university administration and the bankruptcy of union officials. This further compounded the crises that beget our dear union! For over four months that the Victor Odesola assumed office as the president of the union, he has never deem it fit to appear, even for once, before mass of students who voted him into office. Students on resumption into second semester face more and more crises and anti- students’ policies, bad welfare conditions ranging from erratic power supply, bad toilets, bad sewage disposal system, unhealthy cafeteria and butteries, unhealthy bore- hole water for consumption, rotten state of our kitchenettes across all halls, and lots more. Victimisation of students is not also excluded in the midst of these enormous attacks..! All these we as well believe is the consequentially effect of the docility and the backwardness of our union which in itself is a reflection of the political limitation of the union leaders at various levels. To this end and in the spirit of thousands of crises hindering our union from moving forward the generality of students is strongly demanding for a congress of the union so that issues facing our union can be discussed. This we believe is the only way our union can move forward. Instead of sectarian method of the Odesola led- executive and the Egunjobi led- SRC that do cast votes and dies in taking decisions that mar the union, the leadership of the union must immediately call for a congress of the union latest by Friday 21st, November, 2014. This is very important so that the proposed union week will collectively and publicly be discussed among thousands of students hence build mass participation of students in union activities. In addition, the said congress must be designed to address all issues rocking the union. The resolutions of which must be used to build a mass campaign among the rank and file of studentry. It would therefore be recalled that the last substantial congress of the union was called two academic sessions ago against the constitutional provision that there must a union congress at least once in every academic session. The congress which was held during the Edosa led- union administration itself was called when mass of students were faced with attacks and anti- student policies launched by the Adewole led- university administration in January, 2013. On this background we make bold to say that at this moment a congress of our union is long overdue… a congress of our union is urgently needed and immediate mobilisation for the congress on or before 21st Friday November, 2014 must earnestly commence. The Odesola and Egunjobi union leadership must stop thinking that it is only in times of protest and student uprising that a congress is called. They must start now to mobilise for a congress of the union to provide students who are members of the union to discuss on issues affecting their union and chart a way forward in the defence of the tradition of the union and its members. In calling congress of this nature, and to further ensure that generality of members of the union are carried along and as well participate in taking decisions that affect them at the floor of the congress, the union leadership must however raise the slogan for a 24hrs lecture boycott across all faculties in the university, as well put in place all machineries and tools of the union in the massive mobilisation of all students for the congress. On a sum up, we strongly made to clearly state and boldly put it in clear terms that failure of the Odesola led- union administration to immediately call for a congress of the union, students themselves will practically begin the collection of 250 signatories round all the halls and massively mobilise themselves for a congress of the union. Yours in Struggle WE WANT A CONGRESS !!!!!!!!!!
