This is a scene from The Great Dictator written directed and starring Charlie Chaplin in his first ever talkie in 1940. Chaplin plays two characters in the film...one a lowly Jewish barber and the other a ruthless dictator-obviously fashioned after Herr Hitler who had been massing power and frightening the world at that time. The movie is a comedy that shows the obvious idiocy of complete power given to one man. The movie concludes with the dictator seeing the error in his ways and giving power back to the people in an impassioned speech (which I havent included but you should check out if you have a moment.) I love this movie because it shows we can strike at power where it exists through use of words and art not ballistic missiles, and that if we buckle in fear at one mans insanity and blasphemy then we allow them to win. The second we stop standing up to the demands of terrorists is the moment they have won...it appears that time is upon us. Do right and do not let your fears paralyze you... Godspeed Seth and James. m.youtube/watch?v=YqyQfjDScjU
