This is a situation I hope never to find myself in again. While crouching on the bank of a lake photographing snowy egrets I heard someone in the distance yelling and looked up to see a man frantically pointing a stick at something behind me. I turned and saw this 12-14 foot gator coming up in back of me. I am not sure how I fired off a shot as I rolled and scrambled. I think I was mistaken for a heron. I learned a very powerful lesson in the potential dangers of wildlife photography. No more gators for me. Nikon D800 @ 280 mm, f/8, 1/200s, ISO 100.
