This is a small clip of a talk given by the renowned British comedian, John Cleese, whom Ive always adored, of A Fish Called Wanda and Monty Pythons Flying Circus fame. Ive known many comedians and I know that the best are probably at the apex of full-blown human intelligence. You have to be completely brilliant, on many levels to be a great comedian. Here are the salient points Cleese makes in this clip, about how solemnity is a red flag. Solemnity is often deployed by the psychopaths in power, who often lack the fully-developed human capabilities of humor - and lord their own human deficiency over the rest of us: Solemnity...I dont know whats its for! I mean, what is it FOR? The two most beautiful memorial services that I ever attended, both had a lot of humor - and it somehow freed us all and made the services inspiring and cathartic. But solemnity: it serves pomposity - and the self-important always know, at some level of their consciousness that their egotism is going to be punctured by humor - THATs why they see it as a threat. So the dishonest pretend that their deficiency makes their views more substantial and it only makes them feel bigger. [Raspberry]. Now, humor is an essential part of spontaneity, an essential part of playfulness, an essential part of the creativity we need to solve THE problems...
