This is a small family cemetery that is on my parents farm. These folks were the first ones to settle the area now known as Whitehouse which is about 10 miles from Elkins. There are some childrens graves in there also but I did not venture inside the gate. It is said that some of them were wiped out by a flu epidemic that swept through the area. As you can see they are from the early to mid 1800s.The gate has been there as long as I can remember. I do not know who put it up but possibly my great- grandfather. The boy scouts of Elkins have made it their project to keep it cleaned up. It is very clean inside the rock walls. Those walls are dry stacked and still stand. My hat is off to Mike Tillery and his troop for keeping this small bit of our history in such good shape.
