This is a story about love and support. Ill try to keep it brief. Friday night, after a fairly grueling week of two overnight art dept. gigs and some other short but hard jobs I found myself at a rock show of a band I have been wanting to see for a long time. Pixie was shooting a wedding until late. During the show I get a text, and when I look at my phone I see there were a few calls that I missed as well. The text says Emergency! Call Home! I think Oh Shit, I hope everyone is ok. I call back and Pixie is really upset. She tells me that her assistant has wrecked his car (Hes ok) but he cant pick her up from the airport in Oakland and drive her (waay up in the mountains) to the wedding shes supposed to shoot in a matter of hours. I think about it for a second and suggest she puts it out on FB that she needs help and needs it now and hopefully someone will come through for her. I leave the show and come home and no one has answered her call on FB. She looks at me and says Can you help me? Are you willing to get on a plane in 4 hours and drive me to the wedding and be my second shooter? I quickly asses my next two days and without hesitation say Sure, Ill come drive and shoot with you. Really?! Youd do that? Without question, Im here for you and if I can help you Ill do it happily. Ill pay you what I was going to pay my assistant and... You dont have to pay me, really, I want to help. Besides itll be an adventure! So its after midnight, we had to leave for the airport by 5:30 am, I pack and try to sleep a couple of hours. We get to the wedding on time and I realize that not only are the people getting married people I know, but I know half of the wedding party! We do our job, have great food, hang out with friends and go to our cabin where were staying. Exhausted I quickly pass out. On the way home we have some conversation about the things I need to get in a forward moving position, to further my goals. When we finally get home I have to jump in the shower, put on evil clown makeup and rush to the Haunted Hayride for a stilt walking gig after very little sleep for several days at this point. She says Im gonna go get the dog and run to the bank. I think nothing of it and start the very long process of applying evil clown where there was not one before. I walk out ready for the night ahead and she says I have a present for you. For helping me this weekend so selflessly. I sit down in front of a big box, open it, and she has bought me the newest, most stacked Imac in the store. A new computer is something I mentioned would do me a lot of good and has been out of my financial reach for a long time.(Its gigantic) I was speechless. Its not about things really, its about supporting the ones who support you. Whether youre in need or not. Whether its small or large, adventurous or mundane. Support those you love, its worth it even if you dont get a new computer. Oh and my girl Pixie is the best!
