This is a terribly sad video but I feel its one many if not all of us can relate to. That feeling of losing ourselves, losing what made you YOU. Whether it was like this man, an active person who was aspiring to be an EMT only to lose that because of illness or whatever it was that you had to stop, that you had to give up. I was working for a hospital, with patients and I loves it. I had completed my phlebotomy certification and wanted to draw blood, work labs, keep helping patients, care for the sick...until I became one, became one of the ones who needed to be taken care of. Like many of you I can also understand his loneliness. For those of us who have to stop working, stop going out we miss out on life, friends and family. Because of diabetic complications I lost most sight in my right eye and have been unable to drive for 3 years. Illness can isolate you. Where you once could meet a friend for lunch or drinks, once just leave the house on a whim to visit family and friends that gets taken. Suddenly going to get groceries or to the pharmacy becomes your only escape from the house. Most dont understand but those small outings that easily get taken for granted or are even an annoyance to others can be almost exciting for us. To be among people, even strangers for a short time is a joy because the rest of the time youre alone, in the house while everyone else lives their lives. Its lonely. You suddenly realize who truly cares and who doesnt when your once closests friend(s) no longer spend time with you because they cant be troubled to make a drive when youre unable to. I admire this man for being open and sharing how it feels, the pain, the loss of self, of independence, of feeling as if you dont matter. I admire him and others like him for helping to bring to light how hard this illness is. To lose so much, to need so much help to do things others take for granted. The more videos and information become available the more I hope people will learn how hard this illness is, on the ones inflicted, on the families. I hope this spreads awareness. I hope it helps drive research toward better treatment and a cure. We all deserve full lives, to feel normal, to feel alive. So to all you fighters dont give up, youre strong, youre brave, you matter! To the friends and family that stick by their loved ones and have proven to be wonderful friends and amazing family I want to say thank you! We need true people with us to help us win this fight, to help us not feel alone or lonely. In closing I just want to say youre all heroes! Youre not alone! Fight on! ♡ ~Mara
