This is a very underrated version of Hallelujah. Its simple and unembellished, but theres something I really enjoy about hearing an older person sing a song that has a very nostalgic, weathered quality to its lyrics. Im not dissing Jeff Buckley or Rufus Wainwright, but their versions make me feel like Im watching King Lear with a 40-year-old actor instead of a 60-year-old actor. Theyre believable to a point, but I connect with John Cales version the most.
