This is a video of a mare I am schooling at the moment. She is a 7year old British warm blood that has had a few issues and a bit of an attitude which steered in the right direction can be a good thing.she has come to me because sometimes horse and rider just dont gell as in this case. Molly has had successful kissing spine surgery last year but has some obvious memory issues from the pain she must have experienced before. Her main problem is she doesnt want to go forwards and shuts down , she will throw her head back so quickly and stop so for now is ridden in a standing martingale to break the habit and save my front teeth !! I think its important to say that before I started work on her she had her teeth done, saddle checked and back thoroughly checked by equine osteopath Karen Robertson whom I rate highly. As molly seems to really enjoy some jumping I always try to have a few poles scattered about when doing flat work as it keeps her interested.I also take her to my dressage trainer Amanda Edmonds as its another outing and Amanda has been a huge help to me with my other two horses . She also hacks out a couple times a week and gets lunged . she has been difficult to load but now goes straight on with no fuss. The video is taken at kingsedgemore where I took her to get use to dressage boards and scary judges huts !! She will appear to look a little hurried but I am not concerned about this as its forward thinking she needs to be. I really like this mare as underneath that big attitude of hers is a very sensitive sweet person that just lacks confidence so I am always firm but fair with her and we have mutual respect for each other now. My plan is to take her to a riding club dressage comp so I can school her through any naughtiness as I dont want her to learn she can be naughty in a competition so she will be treated no different than if I was at home. I will be updating mollys progress in the forthcoming weeks . Oh and the comment at the end of the video is about molly not me lol x
