This is about racism. Its part of a diversity and tolerance training program. But very applicable weight stigma as well. After you watch consider this: The white kids have to learn that someone who is black can never hide their color or stop being black in any way. A woman who seems to be LGBT tries to say she faced similar intolerances but the instructor points out she can always choose to hide her identity through ornamentation. A black person cant. Think about this from the point of someone who is overweight of obese. The fear of fat is an open and clear prejudice and source of shaming. Does a fat person have a choice to lose weight and no longer be fat? According to the research 95% or more of the time NO. Its not biologically sustainable. Learning how to embrace body size, challenge weight/shape/size stigma, and live a full and vibrant life still remains the best option for self-esteem with this population. Same with folks who are on the very thin side of the weight/shape/size spectrum (2% of the population which still equals millions). Our bodies are unique.
