This is absolutely correct - Truth inspires uncertainty and fear, which causes the recipient to react with hostility against the perceived threat to the integrity of their ego and the value system which props them up. In my years of counseling, I leaned heavily on sharing my own experiences, strength and hope (12 step model, but works for anyone) and that often had some interesting results. There were some folks who listened hard, related and made use of the information, but there were many others who heard MY truths, felt fearful because the only response they could make to me was truth of their own and they did NOT want to look at that. They frequently reacted with instant anger and would try to push me as far away as possible. I understood what was happening with them and could often slowly guide them out of it. But, sometimes I couldnt and had to let them walk away, mired in their fear and distress, helpless to do anything for them. That is always hard....
