This is an amazing video (courtesy of The Alaska Life Facebook page) of two 1,200+ lb bulls fighting to see who goes on to breed the harem of cows. It occurs annually as part of the rut where bulls and cows come together for their mating season. To the victor goes the spoils but keep in mind that the dominant bull can lose up to 30% of his body fat while keeping the smaller bulls away from the harem. These big bulls often die during the following winter but this is what they are for. A healthy herd has large bulls in it that keep the smaller bulls away so they enter winter with their needed reserves to survive to the following year.
