This is an excellent history of the extremism that has hijacked the GOP. Id love to see someone someday expand upon his mention of the enormous part that radio has played in the growth of the extreme reich-wing of the Rethugnican Party. When I was doing radio in a big way back in the first half of the 90s, I was frustrated at every turn trying to find funding for the work I was doing, as did many of my compadres doing similar work. While it was painfully clear that the crazies were spreading their message over the airwaves, nobody on the left was funding radio--I was told over and over again that funding was only going to film and television. Yet, the enemy wasnt using either medium to any great degree to broadcast their message; radio WAS the battleground, and we just werent (and arent) showing up where the battles are happening. That continues to this day, sadly.
