This is an honest question. Why take on the religion of the one who enslaved, tortured, murdered and deliberately oppressed you continuously for 400 years? Doesnt that seem a bit odd? Why are we so naive about this? Could it be fear? Or a conscious or subconscious desire to emulate our oppressor (Stockholm Syndrome)? And wasnt it meant purely as a deceptive control mechanism riddled with contradictions and half truths? Thats strange to me. Someone educate me because Im no theologian or religious scholar.
