This is an outstanding article with good references to Murakami and others on commodification and ways that Warhol shaped the future of fine art. He changed everything. Andy Warhol, like him or not, changed forever the ways the whole world would look at art, think about art, talk about art, make art, and experience art. Many of the greatest contemporary artists today (that may be redundant) could not have existed - okay, they probably could have existed, it would have been impossible for them to achieve the superstar successes that they have achieved, if Warhol had not opened the doors.
