This is another sad consequence of the gun debate. People, cops included, have become so stigmatized about guns in the hands of civilians that they carry around an overblown fear of situations like this one. One one hand, self defense training tells us, he who hesitates, loses. On the other, cops are taught, dont jump the gun and dont overreact. This cops ingrained fear caused him to shoot when he did where just one whole seconds worth of delay could have made all the difference in the world. This was a failure. This is assuming the cops arent lying which I think they are. Either way it is fear and hate of the gun caused by the debate itself which caused this boys death.
