This is by far the most fascinating read I think Ive ever had. The complexities of our brains so grossly outmatched by beings we (or I, in this case, admittedly) had so quickly dismissed. Sure, Ive always believed these animals were intelligent. However, I am frankly appalled at myself for allowing these preconceptions to cloud my perception of intelligence. For most of my life Ive arrogantly believed myself intelligent, maybe even wise beyond my years, but, I am quickly realizing that I have been subjecting other beings, and worse still, my own species, as mentally inferior. I truly believe this wasnt on purpose, as I dont believe myself to be anything special. Still, the concept of these beings possessing a far greater intelligence than no only what we initially believed, but an intelligence possibly far greater than our own is beyond fascinating. Intelligence being measured and dictated by an affinity for tools and technology would undoubtedly make me a fool. So, I that regard, even among my own species, would I be perceived as a being of lesser intelligence? Would I be deemed inferior or useless? We are all different mentally as well as physically, both as species and individuals. A true measure of intelligence is nigh impossible, especially when we are so fond of judging that intelligence on parameters that only suit out own needs. It is easy to be the best, when all the criteria meet your exact needs. It is much the same as the victor being the author of historic conflicts. Much easier to paint yourself in a great light, when the voice of the opposition has been silenced.
