This is day four of a Prozac/Trazodone combo and just over 4 months of living with me. :) Zorros veterinary behaviorist told me that Id know when he was ready to try his first real big step while keeping him under threshold, and she was right. Today, I knew I could shut his crate door and have it be a positive experience for him. I brought all his blankets and toys outside of his crate so hed be comfortable, and heres the result. After this he chewed on his antler for 15mins and then slept soundly for a half hour all outside the crate! All this afternoon and evening, he seems very normal and is happy to come out of his crate to get treats from me, to drink water, and retrieve toys. No backsliding at all! Things Im noticing now are that I rarely see stress signals like lip licking, yawning, and averting his eyes. He retreats once in awhile, but seems to rebound quite quickly. At some points hes even half in my lap now when he wants a treat! Ha. Hes still a bit skittish, but there are more moments that he looks like a typical dog in this than super-fearful. Im over the moon for the little guy!
