This is day one of Victors Challenge and I am his mom, Irene. Victor Jr is 12 years old and he just spent 9 days in the hospital. He spent 6 in the pediatric ICU unit and 3 days on the basic teen floor at Loma Linda Hospital. He suffers from 2 diseases, Type 1 diabetes since the age 3 and severe acute asthma since the age of 6. The hardest challenge with having these two diseases is that the medication he needs to help with his lungs complicates his type 1 diabetes. This was the problem this last stay at the hospital. This page is to help everyone understand the challenges a parent and child goes through dealing with the complications. I will post more discussing his treatment, what the doctors have tried, what was successful and any frustration we go through. I look forward in starting this page, maybe someone out there will have an idea on what we can try. Throughout the years, jr has tried just about everything there is for his asthma. IB
