This is exactly the correct timeline of recent historical events. I remember the City damaging the tree Chris mentions, I remember them cutting down the wrong tree, I remember the Mayor unveiling his plan for the art district in a meeting at the Academy of Arts, and I remember his plan for Citibank bicycle stop and cafe. In fact, I have a lot of video in additions to footage and photos Chris has. This was all part of the plan to turn historic Thomas Square into a profit making tourist stop for the City at the expense of its historical importance and public use. From Christopher Smith: The city killed the trees because of their bs with the homeless and disrespect of the native culture. It all started with a boom truck running into a tree for a raid against the homeless and protestors and killing the tree. In an effort to remove the tree, the city cut the wrong tree down. The city, then started the restoration project of Thomas Square, planting non indigenous bug infested trees throughout the park, and placing planter boxes, which block both Beretania and king st. sidewalks. The new trees which brought the bugs, soon were eaten alive by the bugs, I reported this to DFM. I also made several conversations with the city and county on the matter during the many following Nieghborhood board meetings. Every month making a mention, about how the problem was getting worse, while the city was denying anything was wrong. The bugs have now killed the banyan trees. Why again? Because the city doesnt care about what they do with your tax dollars. They marginalized and criminalize the homeless, disrespect the historic value of the park and the natives with a different restoration day, now they plan to have citibank bicycles and a cafe in the park. I think its safe to say the current situation within the park was all planned in the beginning to further stomp on civil, human rights, disrespect native values, and Hawaiis true history for profit and power.
