This is extremely exciting information! The UPenn School of Veterinary Medicine is conducting clinical trials on a vaccine for bone cancer in dogs, and they are having HUGE successes so far! The vaccine has a demonstrated ability to harness the immune system into targeting and killing malignant cancer cells, resulting in decreased bone pain and overall increased survival rates. There is great similarity between tumors in dogs and tumors in people at the molecular level, thus meaning success in these clinical trials could lead to the development of cancer vaccines to be used in people. The vet in charge of the clinical trials at UPenn is currently looking for more dogs with confirmed osteosarcoma to participate (unfortunately, they can only accept trial participants who have not yet had limb amputations due to the cancer). If you or someone you know has a dog that has been diagnosed with bone cancer, please share this with them - it could save their dogs life and provide valuable information to save more dogs and eventually human life, too. vet.upenn.edu/about/news-and-events/press-releases/article/penn-vet-recruiting-dogs-for-bone-cancer-vaccine-clinical-trial
