This is for Gahanna residents. It is a comment I wrote to a post last night. This is really the first time the budget process has been so open and citizens could go right online in the comfort of their home and see where the city spends money. I wonder if that is a regret on Brian Laricks part since he claims responsibility for that. We all live here (Gahanna) by choice. We all want what is best. We will never agree on what is best and how do we get there. People seem to forget we already decided it was not best to increase income tax in Gahanna. That was done in May. The administration of the city did not like that. So back to the ballot they go. Totally ignoring the fact that the answer was no and working within those parameters. I want more money too. If you give me more I will spend it. The city will too. Does that mean it was necessary to have it, no. Anyone who looks at the capital needs assessment and the city budget documents and sees no frivolous projects or wasted tax dollars is not looking with an open mind. The city should provide our safety and maintain our roads. They have not been maintaining roads or properly putting money aside to do so. It was no surprise that all of a sudden our roads are 25 years old and are going to start having to be replaced. I am pretty sure it was not too long ago that this city had plenty of money. Give me a good reason to vote yes. Dont tell me who endorsed the issue. I can read that in the paper and see Citizens for a Strong Gahannas campaign finance reports. I know there are people out there reading these posts (on take back Gahanna) that are council reps and city employees. I know there is at least one fake facebook account out there that used to post so many facts and numbers about the city finances until one day they posted a picture of a crack in their street. I drove by their house in my big white van (which is impossible to miss) snapped a picture of the treacherous crack, compared it to the one that was posted and it was an exact match. Down to the oil spots. In the 10 minutes it took me to drive home the photo they posted was gone. I did not think to screen shot it, but there is always a chance someone else did. If passing this increase is so important to the future of the city that someone feels the need to go to those lengths why havent they jumped in the conversation and given the voters all the reasons why the taxpayers should give them more money. I have not seen one single reason to vote yes. Not one. The mayor and her staff say we need it is not a reason. There are still undecided voters out there. Give them a reason to vote yes. I am still voting NO.
