This is for my Brother Phil... And everyone on the Im so whatever the city that you grew up in is: Im so L.A. that I remember when it was a big deal to go downtown to the movies on Broadway and eat at Cliftons Cafeteria... Im so L.A. that I remember when 213 preceded 323, 310 and every other area code that followed in the L.A. area. Im so L.A. that I remember when there was an IHOP next to the Shrine Auditorium across the street from Felix Chev; and when going to shop at 32nd Street Market was something of a special trip. Im so L.A. that I remember when we use to have Safeway, Boys and ABC Markets; and before Oscos usurped Sav Ons; and Rite Aid supplanted Thriftys and their 15 cent single scoops of ice cream. Im so L.A. that I remember Pup N Tacos on Slauson & West, as well as on La Brea & Sycamore; as well as the Bobs Big Boys that got robbed on 18th & La Cienega, when Montgomery Wards still existed. Im so L.A. that I remember when the MTA No. 40 was the RTD No. 5 and would start / stop its route at the L.A. County Jail. Im so L.A. that I remember when there was a Bullocks Wilshire; when Robinsons and May Co. were two different stores, before they combined to Robinsons May. I remember when Ohrbachs preceded the Petereson Automotive and when the LACMA West building was May Co. across from Ohrbachs. Im so L.A. that I remember when people that I knew actually stopped at the Golden Ox for burgers, and watched the street races. Im so L.A. that I remember when grandparents bought real wood funrniture from Barker Bros and not compacted sawdust sold to many in L.A. today. Im so L.A. that I remember, when there was a UCLA Mardi Gras, before there was a Jazz / Reggae Fest. Im so L.A. that I remember, when King Blvd was still Santa Barbara Avenue. Im so L.A. that I remember, when there were NO Crip sets; just Crips; and there was actually a Hoover Family (Brims) that chilled at Hoover Rec, when many of their members studied Karate. If anyone is so L.A. that they do not remember when there was Crips, then you are really L.A. Im so L.A. that I remember, when people would go the Fatburger on Western, before I ever knew about one on San Vicente that the Oskos crowd and others would frequent. Im so L.A. that the I will always refer to the Fox Hills Mall, as the Fox Hills Mall; and remember when the Beverly Center did not exist. Im so L.A., that I remember going to the Century and the Centinela Drives Ins and know that there was the Gilmore decades before the Grove on 3rd Street. Im so L.A. that I remember when we listened to 1580 KDAY on AM, the first Hip Hop station in the country. Check it. Im so L.A. that I know that L.A. Laker Jerry West is Mr. Clutch and is the NBA iconic logo. And I do not even give a damn about the Lakers. Im so L.A. that I remember when car clubs would line both sides of Crenshaw from Rodeo Road ALL the way down to Florence. Im so L.A. that I know the L.A. Angels of Anaheim used to be Anaheim Angeles, and before that the California Angeles and before that Los Angeles Angels (a redundant name) that played at the L.A. Coliseum. And I do not give a damn about the Angels. Im so L.A. that Im vain enough to tell you how L.A. that I am. Enough of this foolishness it just about time for prayer and for me to decide what I will break fast with tonight. Have a blessed Iftar. :-D — Team Deen / Deen / Transcend Edutainment
