We understand customers’ frustration in not knowing when power will be restored, and we appreciate your patience and understanding as we assess the widespread damage. Assessment efforts are underway and we will be able to provide restoration estimates for general areas by end of day today. As assessment and restoration continue, we will be able to provide more refined restoration times. At this time, estimated time of restoration is set for some areas: Avilla: 5 p.m. today Decatur: 5 p.m. today Elkhart: Noon Tuesday For other areas: Estimated time of restoration for the Fort Wayne, Muncie and Marion areas are expected by the end of today. Customers in South Bend should be prepared for restoration efforts that could go through Thursday. Assessments continue in southwest Michigan, where the damage is most extensive. Customers should be prepared for restoration efforts that could go through at least Friday. I&M crews assessing damage from Sunday’s major wind storm have discovered more than 80 poles down throughout the service area plus numerous areas where limbs and branches have knocked down power lines. Crews’ first priorities remain isolating and removing hazards such as wires across roads or in residents’ lawns as well as assessing the damages. Approximate number of I&M customers without power in Michigan: Benton Harbor area: 12,500 customers (down from 18,000) Three Rivers area: 10,200 customers (down from 11,400) Buchanan area: 6,600 customers (down from 9,800) New Buffalo / Buchanan area: 1,200 customers (down from 2,400) Approximate number of I&M customers without power in Indiana: South Bend area: 10,400 customers (down from 12,500) Elkhart area: 1,000 customers (down from 1,500) Muncie area: 700 customers (down from 1,000) Marion area: 4,100 customers Elwood area: 270 customers (down from 400) Hartford City area: 50 customers (down from 200) Winchester area: 125 customers (down from 300) Fort Wayne area: 5,500 customers (down from 8,400) Most of the Fort Wayne area damage is southeast Fort Wayne and Allen County, where 27 poles are down on Tillman and Yoder roads. An important message for motorists: With utility crews working throughout the area to restore service, please be particularly cautious of trucks parked near the road. This is especially important as many drivers may be forced to take detours and drive on unfamiliar roads. Report problems in your area using our online reporting system. Residents without power are asked not to stop crew trucks as this will only slow down repairs. Indiana Michigan Power asks for your patience and understanding during the restoration process. In many areas, crews must rebuild significant portions of electric facilities to restore power.
