This is from Laurie Laurie Ridley Taylor Update on Johnnie: Well I said I would give more specifics from yesterdays bone marrow meeting so here goes... Based on all of the genetics that were tested etc etc (all of that is way over my head), if Johnnie only does chemo, there is about an 80% chance that the Leukemia will come back. In order for Johnnie to have the best long term prognosis, he will need a bone marrow transplant. They hope to be able to look in their registry to find him a good match. The entire process could take around 10 weeks, then Johnnie will go straight into transplant. He will have to stay at UAB for the first 30 days then stay within 25 miles of UAB for another 2 months. Thats the toughest part. Of course we are very emotional about all of this because of being away from home for so long and being away from the kids. This will also fall during the Christmas holidays which makes it even tougher. We would love to find a place to stay, that is reasonable of course, that will feel like home and will accommodate the kids so they can stay with us some. I think this will definitely be be the best medicine for Johnnie is if his family can be together. If you know of anywhere, please let us know. We will need somewhere during the months of December and January if everything falls in place like it should. Also, UAB is sponsoring a bone marrow drive at the Ferguson Center at the University of Alabama the end of the month. I will give more information on that as I receive it. Please pray for guidance as this will be a long road for us and we still have so many decisions to make. Love yall as always!
