This is getting to be the time of year where I am at a loss as to formulas and sequences of springtime holidays and exactly when they occur. You can easily figure out Thanksgiving, Independence Day, Christmas, Valentines Day, Halloween (or, as they spell it in Honolulu Halloween) since they fall on a steadfast date or something like the last day of the month, etc. Yet St. Patricks Day, Mardi Gras, and Easter get me into a state of vertigo. I have to stop and think for a moment...does Mardi Gras come before St. Patricks Day? What formula must I figure out avoiding cheating by looking at a calendar...to properly place the date when Mardi Gras and Easter occur? I cant remember the lyrics to the 5th Dimensions Aquarius, so thats out of the question. We have chocolate bunnies (many of them hollow inside), eggs, green beer and beads. Oh big hooray, I am thankful all this doesnt happen on the same day. Im sure its a mathematical formula based on phases of the moon, menstrual cycles, the value of non-ferrous metals, the number of volcanoes currently erupting between the Aleutians and Indonesia, current events in Ukraine, the number of skyscrapers in china over 100 floors, blah blah blah. Ill just retract, and be the sheep...following others to where the parties are... confusion is my epitaph, as I crawl a cracked and broken path...if we make it, we can all sit back and laugh... - Robert Fripp, 1969.
