This is going to be a long one, targeted to Nail Technicians who dont charge enough and individuals who wonder why I charge more than others. As most of my clients know, nails was never supposed to be my full time job. I have my Diploma in Accounting and my Degree in Management, nails was just something to do in the mean time. But my business has taken off for me and I could not be more happy to have found my calling and a career I truly love. I am thankful for my University education and I am happy I can incorporate what Ive learnt into running a business. Now Im going to pass some information on to those of you who, are Nail Technicians with small businesses of your own, or potential clients who see my prices and wonder why does she charge so much? A few points to consider. First, I am not a beginner, just out of a beginner Nail Technician course. In fact, I have many Nail Technician courses behind me, including an Advanced Senior Nail Technician course, Advanced Nail Shaping course, training with world renowned Nail Technician, Gemma Lambert and some nail art training, (mostly my nail art is self taught). I take pride in not only the art I offer but also the shape and structure I create to ensure long lasting, quality, nicely shaped nails. I have years of experience behind me and I am always on the hunt for training to better improve my skills. These courses and years of experience need to be incorporated into my pricing, so I can continue to offer the quality of nails I do, and continue to seek additional training to better improve what I offer. I am not a beginner or a non-standard salon with zero education and therefore, I will not charge what beginner Nail Technicians charge, nor will I charge what non-standard salons, with zero education, charge. Second, nail art is my love and passion and what I am known for and enjoy. I am always on the hunt for new nail art products, new colors, new supplies and if I want to continue to offer my clients the newest products, I need to have these costs built into my pricing. Third, I am a one woman show. My time is divided up by performing nail services, answering messages, responding to comments and inquiries, scheduling appointments, running my social media, traveling to conventions, researching nail art designs and nail art products, and running my business. I do not work a typical 9-5 job, with typical 9-5 hours and therefore need to be paid for my time, outside of performing nail services. Fourth, I have costs associated to my business which most people would not even take into consideration once they see my price point. The fee you pay me for my services goes to many different overhead costs. Rent, water, booking program, lamps, bulbs, electric file, furniture, nail art, basic nail supplies, etc. items that I need in order to perform services for my clients. Any business in the beauty industry, is an expensive business to run. Lastly, after all my deductions, supplies and overhead costs, I still need to make a living. I still deserve a wage just like you. I do not get holiday pay, I do not get vacation pay, I do not get health benefits, I do not have an employer paid pension, I do not get maternity leave, I do not qualify for EI, I do not get disability insurance, I do not get life insurance, I do not get benefits such as these built into my pay, like most individuals working for someone. I therefore NEED to take these factors into consideration when creating my price point and incorporated these items into my wage. Please dont take away from this long blurb anything but positivity. I love my career Ive built, I love my clients, I love what I do and could not image a better career for me but before you say or think, wow she charges too much, based on what do I charge too much?! My prices are what they are for a reason. For all the Nail Technicians out there charging $30 for full sets, take into consideration what you are walking away with for a wage after you incorporate all of the above said costs associated with running your business. Do not settle on a number for the sake of settling on a number. If youre running a business, treat it like a business and charge appropriately for your costs, both to run your business and live and YOUR TIME! Not enough people take time into consideration. Your time is money. What are you making hourly, after your business costs, when youre charging $30 for full sets?! Please note, I do not need to defend, nor justify my pricing in any way shape or form, but I choose to here because I am tired of hearing that people want quality, blinged out fabulous nails, for cheap. If youre seeing cheaper prices, I can guarantee youre losing in out in another area. I choose to run my business like a business. I have business and management training and have chosen to use this education to my advantage when running my business. I wanted to pass some of that knowledge on to the general public who see my prices and wonder why I charge what I charge, and for the Nail Technicians out there who also run businesses
