This is going to make me very unpopular with some...I already expect and accept that. Tonight, if all goes well, Texas will execute Lisa Coleman. She will be the 15th female executed since the death penalty was reinstated. I refuse to call this creature a woman. She was convicted of the abuse/starvation/death of her partners son. At the time, Davontae Williams was barely 9 years old. When his body was found, it was assumed that he was around three, since he weighed 36 pounds. His tiny body, clad only in a diaper, had more than 250 wounds as well as scars from beatings, restraints, burns from cigarettes & cigars. His sister, on the other hand, was well nourished by comparison, and bore no such visible scars. The mental scarring is another story. The childrens mother, took a plea agreement to avoid execution and will unfortunately, get to spend the rest of her life in prison. Ms. Coleman,(or Piggy as she was known when I worked at Tarrant County) did not. I dont care that shes female, or black, or had an abusive childhood. Nothing excuses the treatment this boy received at the hands of the people that were supposed to love and protect him. His only fault (if it can be called that), is that he was male. The system failed this child up to this point. CPS did not protect him or his sister, for after being taken from the home, they were returned to their so-called mother. Im praying that finally, this little boy gets the justice he deserves.
