This is going to seem pretty dumb. While bored at work today I - TopicsExpress

This is going to seem pretty dumb. While bored at work today I started to think about what I was going to wear when I meet my niece. It is cold in Pennsylvania (which is where the baby is located). I will be traveling from Los Angeles (where it is not cold, in spite of what the weathermen might say). I dont know how volatile the child is (prone to spitting up), or if she might not like me (I totally understand if she doesnt). So something warm yet non absorbent. I dont think loud colors is the way to go for several reasons. Firstly, it doesnt fit my personality. Secondly, with no scientific evidence to back this up, I think babies probably find bright colors to be disconcerting and weird. And finally, everyone has a phone in their pocket. I dont need to explain to grown up Molly why I chose a very bright shirt for our first photo op. Hi, I am your Uncle Jim, I also resemble a banana. Good luck with life. I dont want to dress like her father, my face is already dressed like him every day (hes my twin). My only way to delineate between the two of us is by attire. I got these new boots that I really like, but she will be in a crib and when out I doubt she will be near them, so the boots arent really that important. I mostly wear jeans, so I figure that wont change. Id like her to know the real me, and that means jeans. I am not going to throw on khakis or any sort of linen pant. Its a baby, I dont want to come off like I am trying too hard. I can conclude that the most important part is the shirt. When I hold her the shirt will be right there. I dont need to make it too busy of a print. I dont need to be bringing that sort of craziness into her house. Shes new to this world, and overall, my shirt politics arent really meant to alarm anyone. Should I buy something new? I have about a dozen shirts I could wear, all in various states of age. A few I am tired of, several probably should be tossed and replaced. So optimistically Id say there are three that are fitting for the occasion. She hasnt seen any of them before, unless my brother has been showing her pictures of me (I will remember to check with him to see if he has been doing that). I really want this to go well, so I think I will buy a new shirt. Something classy, but casual. Maybe in a subtle gray, or blue (blue does wonders for my eyes). I just want this to go well. I wont get to see her for a while after this, and I dont want her to remember her Uncle Jim as the guy who rolled through wearing a dirty Batman tshirt and crumby sneakers. Oh, she wont remember any of this? Hmmm, Ill keep that in mind. 11 days!!
