This is how I see the threatened 1080 drop next month on Tennyson Inlet Scenic Reserve, next door to us at Tira Ora. It has all the hallmarks of the Israeli genocide in Gaza, which has been condemned by the international community as the latest stage of the longest ongoing ethnic cleansing operation in the recent and present centuries, the ongoing attempt to destroy Palestinian nationhood: 1. The 1080 drop kills indiscriminately any breathing creature, be they insect, bird, or mammal, whether they are considered “pests” or not: whereas the Israeli bombing killed people in the Gaza targets, men, women, and children, Palestinians, others, Muslims, Christians, whether they were supposedly members of Hamas or not; 2. The threadbare justification of DoC is that some of these creatures, described as “pests”, do some damage to a few supposedly more worthy creatures, snails, etc., therefore it is just that they all die; whereas the Israelis justify killing hundreds of innocent civilians with the deaths of a few actual soldiers who are committed to the destruction of Palestinians and the impotent threats of Hamas rockets (which are efficiently stopped by Israel’s Iron Dome); and in the Talmudic-Judaic belief system, non-Jews are a different species from Jews, and according to their own code of laws they have “a duty to exterminate them with one’s own hands”; 3. DoC call landowners before they drop the 1080; just as the Israelis call the Palestinians before they send their missiles – “we are about to bomb your home/hospital/school/UN shelter…”. Is that somehow supposed to make it right?! Does DoC expect us to do what the Palestinians have had to do and move out? And what of the poor animals, they don’t get any phone calls… The planned 1080 drop is an offence against natural justice and human decency, just like the continued Israeli persecution of Gaza. Pray that God may send his grace to convert the hearts of both DoC and the Israeli nation, so that all God’s creatures may live in peace.
