This is in relevance to another post. Is it out of order to correct a ministerial leader? Most will cite 1 Timothy 5:1: “Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren;” Correction: The Apostle Paul is telling Timothy, a spiritual son, do not or “rebuke” which means “to physically strike, violently contend, or literally ‘beat upon’” an older person rather respect or admonish them as an older person than you. (Timothy was allegedly forty years old around this time which is considered fairly young.) Now, look at 2 Timothy 4:2: “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.” Note the words “reprove, rebuke” and “exhort”. There is no indication or clear citation forbidding the correction of ministry leaders in whatever ministerial function. Now when and if you do reprove, rebuke, and exhort a ministry leader, you are to do it patiently according to righteous application of The Holy Bible; not with emotional opinion or self-righteous anger. Serve each other with love and let love for the brethren continue as you earnestly contend for the faith.
