This is in response to the bombardment of text messages that I have received on whats going on with the Memphis Police Department and Fire Department. Basically guys and gals the Mayor of the City of Memphis and The City Council voted to make current and retired police officers and fire fighters destitute. 1. They voted to raise active police and fires insurance cost by 24%. This is basically a pay cut. 2. They voted to force city employees wives/husbands off of the City insurance family plan if they can get insurance elsewhere. This means that city employees will have to continue to pay for a family plan to cover their children and a higher rate (24% higher) and pay for outside insurance to cover their spouse. 3. Retired City employed are now responsible for 100% of their health care cost. To explain, if your retirement check is $1,400 a month and you normally pay $300 a month in health insurance, you will now pay in some cases $1,000 a month in health insurance, which leaves you $400 a month to live off of. Some of these retirees are medically disabled from injuries sustained at work like getting shot and cant go back to work. So $400 is all they will have. And you cant get Medicaid if you already have insurance. Now tell me if you would want to run into a burning house or chase a robber with a gun into a dark alley when you know your family wont be taking care of after youve been permanently injured. All my military friends here know hesitation kills. And right now this city just made a whole lot of hesitant warriors.
