This is it. My first novel, OF SAINTS AND SHADOWS, was published twenty years ago today...and its still in print. The list of people who have mentored, hired, represented, or inspired me over the past twenty years (really 25 since my first NECON) is impossibly long. My deepest gratitude to you all. You know who you are, but a special thanks to Craig Shaw Gardner, Lori Perkins, Ginjer Buchanan, and the late Philip Nutman for shepherding me from the start. To Thomas Sniegoski, Pete Donaldson, Howard Morhaim, Tim Lebbon, Amber Benson, Allie Costa, and Lynne Hansen for having my back. To all of the editors whove had my back and taught me something, to my Necon family...and more than anything, to my parents, my siblings and their wives, my Russo family, my extended family, and to Connie Golden, Nicholas Golden, Daniel Golden, and Lily Golden...without whom it would mean nothing. Finally, in memory of those weve lost, most especially the great Bob Booth (happy birthday, Bob, wherever you are) and my brother Rick Hautala, whom I miss every day. Finally...a massive thank you to all of the magnificent people out there who have ever bought and read something Ive written. Its never easy, this writing life, but I wouldnt trade it for the world, and I only have it because of you. Thank you.
